Rugby Art Gallery and Museum

History lovers can step back into the borough's Roman past at Rugby Art Gallery & Museum in the Tripontium Gallery or discover Rugby's industrial heritage in the Social History Gallery. 

Between mid-March and June every year, visitors can immerse themselves in the art gallery's annual exhibition of selected artworks from the Rugby Collection of 20th century British art. Over the rest of the year, the gallery holds a diverse range of contemporary art exhibitions ranging from photography to craft by both local and international artists.

 

Webb Ellis Rugby Football Museum

The Webb Ellis Rugby Football Museum can lay claim to having the longest continuous association with the game of rugby of any site in the world. It was here that the first rugby footballs were made by James Gilbert in 1842. The museum boasts a fascinating collection of international rugby memorabilia built up over the last hundred years.

 

Rugby School & Museum Tours

Rugby School, which gave birth to the game of rugby and produced many famous alumni, operates tours of its impressive grounds, buildings and museum. The museum houses a wealth of interesting objects relating to the School's long and rich history.

Draycote Water Country Park

The country park covers 21 acres on the southern side of Draycote Water. Watch the sailing from the
glass fronted visitor centre and breathe-in the surrounding countryside, popular for walking and kite flying. The park also runs a busy events programme during summer evenings.

Feel closer to nature at the centre which is an unspoilt haven for wildlife. The 200 acre nature reserve hosts seven lakes, six bird hides and relaxing woodland walks.

A hidden jewel waiting to be discovered as it meanders through Rugby borough. The Oxford Canal is a popular leisure facility for boaters, anglers and walkers. Certain stretches of towpath are also suitable forcyclists and the local British Waterways office can advise on these. Day boat cruises operate from some local marinas and boats can also be hired from a number of locations along the canal for longer holidays.

Stanford Hall, built in the 1690s for Sir Roger Cave, is still home to his descendants and is one of the
most exquisite examples of William and Mary architecture. The Percy Pilcher Museum is well worth a visit and is full of surprises.
